Who is he? Odysseus is a very strong mortal and hero. He was the king Ithaca, a small island. He is very powerful for being a mortal. His father is Laertes and his mother is Anticleia, who are also mortals. Odysseus is smart. He can think fast and make smart decisions. He has gotten out of situations by manipulating people and using people to get to his goal.

Odysseus' Journeys The myth of Odysseus originated from Greece and was created by an ancient Greek writer, Homer. Odysseus was a normal human, he had no supernatural abilities. All he had was his courage, bravery, and will to fight on to get home. To humanity and the people around him, he was looked at like a hero, well respected. Odysseus was looked at like this because of what he fought through during his journey after the Trojan War. He escaped from the love driven Calypso (the help of a few gods), he powered through the Lotus-Eaters with his platoon, and even escaped the Laestrygonians (there were some casualties), and fought through many more obstacles. Since he completed all of this and strived to get back to Ithaca, he was looked at as a hero.
Cultural Connection Odysseus reminds me of the present day DC Comic “The Arrow” because of their leadership and the similarities in their life. Both Odysseus and The Arrow were trapped on an island and away from home for a long time. During both of their journeys they encountered different enemies which they had to overcome. Both characters take leadership of a group which they lead and organize.
